cnMaestro 5.1.0 (On-Premises) Release Notes

Introduction

This document highlights new features and significant updates in cnMaestro On-Premises.

Important: Package Upgrade
cnMaestro On-Premises 5.1.0 is a Package release rather than a full OVA image. It must be applied on top of an existing 5.0.0 On-Premises installation.

Important: VM Configuration for X Customers
cnMaestro X customers with Enterprise APs should increase the CPU and Memory of their virtual machines by 50% to support new cnMaestro X features such as WLAN Dashboard. Heavily loaded systems will experience resource problems if this is not done prior to updating to 5.1.0.

Important: Web Browser
Restart your browser (or clear the browser cache with a hard reload) if you have UI problems after the 5.1.0 update.

EasyPass Captive Portals

EasyPass replaces the existing Guest Access Portal to improve the administrator experience when configuring captive portals (which redirect Wi-Fi users to a designated login page before accessing the network). EasyPass portals are subdivided into Guest/Public Access, Employee/Student Access, and Combined.

Guest/Public Access

Guest/Public Access includes the following portal types:

  • One Click
  • Self-Registration
  • Sponsored Guest
  • Voucher
  • Paid
  • WiFi4EU

Employee/Student Access

Employee/Student Access includes the following portal types:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Google Login

Combined

Combined allows aggregation of portal types and includes the following:

  • One-Click and Voucher
  • One-Click and Paid
  • Voucher and Paid

EasyPass is accessed through the Network Services side-tab.

5.1.0-1

A new EasyPass Portal is created by specifying a name and selecting the Portal Type.

5.1.0-44

Note: Microsoft Azure and Google Login are not supported on-premises.

WIDS and WIPS Enhancements X

WIDS (Wireless Intrusion Detection System) works by continuously scanning the wireless spectrum to detect and mitigate potential intrusions. It has been enhanced to support the following sections:

  • Neighboring APs
  • Wired Devices
  • Ad Hoc Networks
  • Allowlist APs

Neighboring APs

Monitor and manage neighboring APs to ensure optimal network performance and security. The user can selectively mark neighboring APs as Allowlist APs or Rogue APs. This functionality enables administrators to categorize neighboring APs based on their legitimacy.

5.1.0-5

Allowlist APs

Configure the SSID and MAC addresses of authorized access points, providing control over permitted devices in the network infrastructure.

To add Allowlist APs:

  1. Navigate to WIDS > Allowlist APs.

  2. Click Add New.

5.1.0-6

  1. Enter the BSSID/MAC address.

  2. Enter SSID.

  3. Click Save.

Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS)

WIPS triggers Wi-Fi devices to de-authenticate Rogue APs and Rogue Clients by sending spoofed de-authentication messages. This enhances wireless security.

Graphical Reports Enhancements X

The following Graphical Reports have been added to cnMaestro and can be mapped to System or Site scope.

  • Top Access Points by Traffic Usage
  • Top Applications by Client Count
  • Top Application Category by Client Count
  • Top Client Types by Traffic Usage
  • Top Sites by Client Count
  • Top SSIDs by Client Count
  • Top Clients by Traffic Usage
  • Top Managed Accounts by Traffic Usage
  • Top Sites by Traffic Usage
  • Top SSIDs by Traffic Usage

The WLANs active at a Site are displayed as a table with basic statistics.

5.1.0-9

Dashboard for Specific WLAN

Selecting an individual WLAN presents a WLAN Dashboard and WLAN Applications Dashboard, as well as the lists of APs hosting the WLAN and Wireless Clients using it.

5.1.0-10

AFC Support for PMP 450v Devices

The AFC (Automated Frequency Coordination) feature enables PMP 450v devices to reuse channels and avoid interference by obtaining necessary parameters from a cloud-hosted AFC system. This ensures channel interference is avoided in the specified geographic location.

5.1.0-43

Device Deletion Improvements

cnMaestro allows you to delete devices in bulk from the following locations:

Onboard > Devices page for unmanaged devices.

Inventory page for onboarded/managed devices at the System, Network, Tower, and Site levels.

Manage Subscriptions > Devices page.

Deleting devices in cnMaestro creates a corresponding job in Administration > Jobs > Actions. This page lists all deletion-related jobs corresponding to the deleted devices. If a deletion task is unsuccessful, you can retry deleting the devices from the failed job itself.

Device Specific Deletion Restrictions

cnWave 5G Fixed Wireless (BTS/CPE) and PON (OLT/ONU): You cannot bulk delete BTS or OLT devices when it has CPE or ONU devices underneath. However, you can delete a single BTS or OLT device and the associated devices (CPEs or ONUs) by clicking the delete icon in the corresponding row.

60 GHz cnWave: Bulk deletion works differently depending on the type of controller.

  • External E2E Controller: You can delete multiple External E2E controllers in bulk.
  • Onboard E2E Controller: You cannot bulk delete the devices if a last PoP node is selected as one of the devices besides the DN and CN.

In this case, you must first delete the DN and CN devices and then delete the last pop node.

cnVision, ePMP, and PMP : The bulk deletion of ePMP and PMP devices depends on how the SMs were onboarded.

SMs onboarded using the zero-touch method: Bulk deleting parent APs will also delete all the associated SMs.

SMs onboarded without the zero-touch method: Bulk deleting parent APs will delete only those APs. However, the associated SMs will be moved to the default network.

APs claimed for CBRS: If APs claimed for CBRS are deleted, the child SMs claimed by CBRS are deregistered and deleted from the Management Tool page. This occurs even if the CBRS-claimed SMs are not selected for bulk deletion.

After updating, I need to click the clear filters button to view the default AP group and WLANs. Is there any way to change this behavior?

Hi @mt5
Starting with version 5.1.0, default AP groups and WLANs are hidden. As of now there is no other option. We’ll create an Improvement JIRA to streamline this into a single click for your convenience.

Hello

I was told 5.1 would have a new error code/message in the onboarding queue indicating if a device was a duplicate, as duplicate devices causes many issues we’ve experienced. However, I do not see this explicitly stated in the release notes. Can you confirm if this was actually added to 5.1?

Thanks

Hi,
This was added in 5.1.0. It was not added in the release notes as this is not a feature but a minor improvement in the onboarding page.
