This is a misunderstanding - cnMaestro X is not required for cnMatrix management.

cnMaestro 3.2.0 (On-Premises) Release (Part 1: Features)

Just to clarify this statement: you absolutely can still use cnMatrix devices with the free version of cnMaestro (cnMaestro Essentials). The recent change was to require subscriptions for cnMatrix devices with cnMaestro X.

(cnMaestro X is still required for MSP features and long term data retention)
