Configuration changes forcing AP reboot

Is there any listing or manual that informs about configuration changes that force a restart of the AP?

It is frustrating not to be able to make hardly any configurations from cnMaestro without this involving restarting the AP units with the consequent interruption of service for minutes, maybe there is a quick list of things to avoid in these cases.

@Edues rebooting of APs or restarting of radios? if APs are rebooting, please confirm that the changes you are pushing is not disconnecting the AP from cnMaestro. If that happens, the APs will reboot to the previous good configuration to reconnect with cnMaestro

is there a list though?

To my knowledge there is no list available, although, typically anything involving a change to the radio or ethernet interfaces results in a reboot.

With the CĂĄmbium APs I am discovering that most of the time, any change in the configuration, means a complete restart of the AP.
I must be bad used to it, as over years of using Xirrus APs, I have become accustomed to making adjustments on the fly without the risk of restarting the APs, most of the time only the interface involved is restarted.
I’m not complaining, I just want to get a better understanding of how these APs behave.

YES - pretty much every brand we used prior to Cambium would make many changes without restarting.

That being said, it is really really good to see that channel changes are now often possible to have the SMs ‘follow me’ to the new channel without interruption. That is a welcome fix, and I think that should be extended to as many other settings and services as possible.

The Wi-Fi Access Points will reboot only when we change the Software Defined Radio configurations, like:
• Radio band mode from 5 GHz to 6 GHz and vice versa.
• Splitting the radio from 8x8 into 4x4 on XV3 (Radio 2) and XE5-8 APs (Radio 4)

What else would cause the AP’s to reboot, besides radio changes or radio manual overrides?

is there a list of what will cause the AP to reboot? What about a feature we can toggle on at tenant level for “submit all changes”.

IE: Changes get put into a queue. We can then review queue and then apply/submit.

Engenius use to do this, and other vendors.

No other configuration apart from the Vijesh listed shall result into Wi-Fi APs reboot. Additional actions or conditions that can lead Wi-Fi AP to reboot,

  1. Firmware image upgrade
  2. Admin initiated manual reboot action and
  3. Configuration push that results into Wi-Fi AP loosing connection to the cnMaestro

If AP the group configuration got updated or AP running configuration edited on standalone AP. cnMaestro will detect and mark device as out of sync with the proper reason

Most of the time it’s the radio reset, not the AP reboot. Still, a maintenance window is needed when changing in a production environment every single time because clients drop off during voice calls we don’t want.
