We have received warning that our CPI will expire soon through Federated. When we renew the CPI, is that going to cause any issues with the current certificate? Or should the existing certificate just keep on working as long as its renewed? TIA!
No issues.
Existing registered CBSD’s will continue to work, even if the CPI isn’t updated. Only when changing CBSD information or adding new CBSD’s, you’ll have to certify with the new CPI.
I have a customer who has a 3ghz 450 SM that seems to be going bad. I want to swap it out with a 450B SM but my CPI is currently expired. Does this mean that I cannot swap out his dish? Also, when I put the new 450B dish in the air, it did not find the 3Ghz AP even though it is only about a mile away and clearly in its path. Does and expired CPI also prevent an SM from “seeing” the AP?
related to my above question. are there services or people out there who will provide use of their CPI credentials if they can confirm the SM is indeed placed where it should be and conforms?
If you swap out for a new radio you will need a CPI to sign off on it. The new 450b should be able to at least show the the AP on its scan list (unless you’ve chosen to hide this information on the AP side but by default SM Display of AP Evaluation Data is enabled), but you won’t be able to register to the AP without the CPI data. I’d make sure that the new SM has the matching channel and channel width of the AP in order to see it on the scan list.
I don’t know of any 3rd party CPI services that provide CPI sign off, I kind of doubt that they’d want to take on that kind of liability. You might want to try working with a friendly provider near you to help sign off. If you have quite a few clients using CBRS, you should probably get your CPI renewed as soon as possible just in case there’s an emergency, like if your AP needs to be swapped out, you’ll need your CPI to get the new AP up and running.
As usual, solid advice from you Eric. I was hoping to transition away from 3ghz moving forward which is why I have been slow or reluctant to renew my CPI. But you raise good points for sure. The only mystery left is to figure out why two different SM’s are not able to see the AP at all. Thank you for the help and advice
