Defective 450b can we fix this ourselves without an RMA?

Can’t insert this into the dish because the plastic part with the headphone and Ethernet jacks is sticking up. Seems like maybe this just needs to be popped in but pushing with a finger doesn’t do it. Will we have to RMA this?

Hi Ken,

you’re right, that piece that surrounds the audio and Ethernet jacks needs to be popped back into place. It is held in by a pair of molded plastic clips at each end. You might be able to get it properly seated by applying a bit more force, assuming there is nothing underneath that is blocking it. This photo shows the clips at the end that is protruding on your SM:

Alternatively, you could try removing the plastic piece entirely, and insert the audio jack end first before pressing the other end into place. Due to the orientation of the clips it may be a little easier to insert it this way. Here’s a photo of the entire piece to illustrate what I mean:

If that doesn’t work, or if you don’t feel comfortable applying more force, then please open a ticket so that we can RMA it.

Thanks, excellent and very thorough answer. Once I knew I was pushing on a plastic insert and not a PCB, and what the clips looked like underneath, I felt more confident pushing harder. I tried both ways you suggested, but what ended up working was to use a large flat bladed screwdriver to push down on the very end of the plastic piece (beyond the audio jack) so I was pushing right over the tabs.
