The e500 is a rugged outdoor wireless access point so there is the possibility that it can encounter a lightning strike. While deployment is normally in the 10 to 30 foot vertical mounting range there are deployments that the e500 could be mounted on a high pole or high wall. Since the e500 is a fully rugged plastic housing and pole mounting bracket it is isolated from any metal structure that it could be mounted to, but it is still susceptible to lightning strikes. The attached diagram gives recommended mounting. The Cambium Networks 1000SS is recommended to be used with the e500 for ultimate protection.
When an auxiliary device is powered by the e500 one also needs to be careful if that auxiliary device has a direct connection to the metal pole via its own mounting bracket or its antenna.
