Enterprise Wi-Fi Access Point – Release 7.1.2 Now Available

:loudspeaker: Announcing Enterprise Wi-Fi Access Point Release 7.1.2

We are pleased to announce the availability of Enterprise Wi-Fi Access Point Release 7.1.2 — a maintenance release of Release 7.1 that introduces new hardware support, platform enhancements, important bug fixes, and regulatory updates.

:new_button: New Hardware Platform

Release 7.1.2 introduces the X7-56X — a Tri-Radio Indoor Wi-Fi 7 Directional Access Point (2x2:2 + 4x4:4 + 4x4:4) supporting 802.11b/g/n/ac/ax/be with a third SDR radio for 5/6 GHz, 5 GbE, IoT radio, and a directional antenna.

Note: The X7-56X requires a minimum AP firmware version of 7.1.2 and cnMaestro On-Premises v6.0.0 / Cloud v6.1.0. It is managed exclusively via cnMaestro (Cloud or On-Premises) and is not supported on XMS-Cloud.

:white_check_mark: Enhancements

  • DHCP Option 82 MAC address encoding — All APs now support hexadecimal MAC address encoding at the WLAN level, in addition to the existing Hex-ASCII format, improving interoperability with broadband gateways.

  • PoE Out configuration persistence — All APs now retain the PoE Out configuration across factory resets when the service poe-out-lock command is applied.

  • Mesh radar detection relay — Mesh clients now report radar detections to the mesh base. Enable via the process-client-radar-detection command.

  • QoS improvement for X7-35X / X7-53X / X7-55X — Improved QoS behaviour when both 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth radios are concurrently active.

:bug: Bug Fixes

Key issues resolved in this release include:

  • RADIUS server hostname resolution causing client connectivity issues
  • Incorrect VLAN assignment after intra-AP and 802.11r roaming
  • Duplicate BSSID issues on XV2-22H, XV2-21X, and XV2-23T
  • Ethernet negotiation failures on APs using 2-pair cables
  • False radar detection on non-DFS channels (149 and 157)
  • Incorrect RF interference values reported by APs
  • DFS events causing APs to select channels outside the allowed channel list, disrupting mesh networks
  • Inaccurate wired client limit reporting
  • TCP downlink throughput degradation on XV2-2 at maximum 5 GHz transmit power
  • Throughput statistics not updating correctly to cnMaestro (X7-35X, X7-53X, X7-55X)
  • NAT not functioning on XV2-22H when eth2 is configured as the uplink port
  • Excessive DPI events generated randomly in cnMaestro
  • Random crash under load on XE3-4

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Regulatory Updates

This release adds or updates regulatory support for the following regions:

  • Mexico — 6 GHz indoor and outdoor EIRP updates
  • Costa Rica — 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz band support
  • Egypt — Updated EIRPs across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands
  • Chile — 6 GHz indoor support
  • Argentina — 6 GHz indoor support
  • Saudi Arabia — New country support across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands
  • Australia & New Zealand (XE3-4TN) — 6 GHz indoor operation now supported (5925–6425 MHz)

:warning: Important Upgrade Notices

Please review the following before upgrading:

  1. XE3-4 (Revision B & C) staged upgrade required:
When upgrading via CLI or device UI, follow the sequence:
    6.x → 6.6.2.1 → 7.1

  2. Downgrade restrictions:

    • Wi-Fi 6 / 6E APs (XE and XV series) on Release 7.1 cannot be downgraded below version 6.6.1
    • Wi-Fi 7 APs (X7 series) on Release 7.1.2 cannot be downgraded below version 7.1.2
  3. XMS-Cloud not supported for:
    XV2-21X, XV2-23T, X7-35X, X7-53X, X7-55X, and X7-56X. These APs are managed exclusively via cnMaestro.

  4. Release 7.1 and later are not available for Wi-Fi 6 / 6E APs on XMS-Cloud.

Good evening. I attempted to deploy this firmware to several APs this evening, most were successful, but one unit failed multiple times. Using cnMaestro cloud I was able to push this new firmware to an XE3-4, an X7-55X, and an XV3-8. However, all attempts to push it to an X7-35X failed. The error in cnMaestro was “DownloadFailed, SW update file download failed”. There were no local communication issues. I logged into the local GUI of that AP and was able to perform the upgrade directly.

Hi @Mitchell_Mitchell , just a single point of reference but I was able to upgrade my XE3-4 AP to 7.1.2-r9 via cnMaestro Cloud v 6.1.0-r1. I will run the upgrade on a wider range of APs and update here.

Hey @GaryHansen This morning I upgraded an XE5-8 and an XV2-2 via cloud w/o incident. The only model that consistently failed the upgrade was the X7-35X.
