How many simultaneous Multicast connections can a 450 support?

We are using an EPMP 1000 for a point to point link however, it will only support 5 multicast streams.

We need a product to support at least 8 or so and about 50 Mbp. of data.

Do the ePMP 450 or 650s support more multicast streams?

Hi Valunet,

If you are using ePMP in PTP application then the best way to achieve what you want is swapping the roles of the devices... When you are doing multicast on downlink (AP->SM), system is trying to treat the multicast packets in a smart way - as it is required for PMP applications. On uplink however (SM->AP) multicast will go as any other traffic and there is no need to configure any options for that (no IGMP/multicast settings required). It is worth trying before swapping hardware!

BR

PS Are you using reliable multicast mode @ present?

Hi,

On ePMP, in Release 2.4.3 you can have unlimited multicast streams on the SM by setting the Mulicast Group limit to 0. Once you do this, your PTP link will have no restrictions on the number of multicast streams.

Thanks,

Thanks so much.  We will look at both of these solutions!

Well,,,, we tried that and guess what.  Lost all video streams.  It appears that setting to 0 really means 0.  However, we set it back to 5, rebooted and still got nothing.  Revereted back to the old software and everything works fine.

Has anyone else actually tried to run multicast video on the new software?
