Important Note: cnVision products with cnV-4.5.x must be upgraded and factory reset before use

Please have a look a the following support notice for all cnVision devices that shipped with specific CNV-4.5, CNV-4.5.1, CNV-4.5.2 or CNV-4.5.3 version. Feel free to post any questions or contact Cambium support for assistance with the process. - Bruce

Important note for cnVision Users and System Integrators

Upgrade and factory reset required on all cnVision devices shipped with firmware versions CNV-4.5, CNV-4.5.1, CNV-4.5.2 or CNV-4.5.3

Impact

All cnVision radios shipped with firmware CNV-4.5, CNV-4.5.1, CNV-4.5.2, or CNV-4.5.3. If you received the cnVision devices on 4.6.1, below steps are not required.

It is strongly recommended for cnVision radios with the above firmware arriving from the factory that the following steps should be performed before proceeding with configuration. If the unit is already configured, the required factory reset will remove the configuration which must then be re-entered after the reset.:

  1. Upgrade** cnVision client devices (Micro, Mini, MAXr, MAXrp) to the latest firmware. The latest firmware should be downloaded from Cambium’s support site. (Go to Downloads → cnVision → Current or Beta → cnVision Software Release → firmwareName.img file)

Please beware that any firmware version later than CNV-4.5.3 needs to be chosen. E.g. currently (03/23/2021), 4.6.1-RC14 should be chosen in Beta. In future, any Current/Beta firmware version later than CNV-4.5.3 can be chosen.

  2. After upgrade, client devices need to be reset to factory defaults by one of the following methods:

    1. Web Browser: webUI → Tools → Backup/Restore → Factory Default Configuration → Reset Button

    2. Pressing reset button on the radio. For this, while radios is powered ON, keep reset button pressed for 12-15 seconds.

**If for some reason, you can ping the device (using link-local IP address (169.254.1.1) or default IP address (192.168.0.2 for client devices) or previously configured IP address), but webUI is blank, then you will first need to factory reset the device using reset button (see step 2.2 above) first and then follow steps 1 and 2.

The steps above will prevent the following issues from occurring:

  1. Using client device as a hub - On some client devices (clients Micro, Mini, MAXr, MAXrp) after changing the radio mode from client to hub, clients can not establish wireless connection to that hub, because hub radio goes into ePTP mode (undesired mode for cnVision), and there is no way to recover from the webUI.

  2. Using client device as a hub - On some client devices (clients Micro, Mini, MAXr, MAXrp), after changing the radio mode from client to hub followed by firmware upgrade, radio goes in firmware recovery mode and can potentially become unresponsive if same firmware is chosen in firmware recovery mode.

  3. On some cnVision radios (hub and/or clients) on CNV-4.5 firmware, you can ping the device (using link-local IP address (169.254.1.1) or default IP address (192.168.0.2 for client devices) or previously configured IP address), but webUI is blank.

  4. Using client device as a hub - No more than 1 client can connect to the hub (client device configured as the hub).

Important Notes:

  1. As a general rule, all hubs and clients in the same clusters should always be running the same firmware version.

  2. Issue 3 above can be experienced on either client or hub devices. In this case, you will need to factory reset using reset button (by keeping reset button pressed for 12-15 seconds while hub is powered ON) and then you will be able to access webUI, so that you can do the firmware upgrade to the latest available firmware on our support site - Downloads → cnVision → Current or Beta (if Beta is available, you must choose the beta and not Current) → cnVision Software Release → firmwareName.img file
