Is -80 dbm signal good?

ISP has installed epmp 1000 On both AP and station for 50mbps internet plan

Is -80 dbm good for 50mbps internet?

I want to know minimum required signal level to get proper speed

Brijesh,
You should have SNR that is > 23dB. That signal quality means that you will be on QAM64 modulation most of the time, and during fades, you should stay on QAM16 which is enough to maintain your service level.

On a 40 MHz channel, the noise floor should be about -92 dBm, so with no external interference, your RSSI value should be 23 dB higher than that. The ideal signal level for you should be about -69 dBm or higher. For the best service, you should find 10 dB or more signal.

Without getting too far into the science of it, I always tried to keep it simple when I supervised a group of installers or was setting policy. -72 was the absolute minimum we established for installations and the goal was anything better than -72 (Goal was really to get -60 to -65 when possible).

For higher speed installations it was -65 or better. While theoretically is is possible to achieve speeds at lower signal levels, our quality of service improved and trouble calls dropped following that guideline

The short answer is no. :-1:
We really wouldn’t connect a customer at -80 :person_shrugging:
