Just curious if the X7-35X is a dead product? The latest (and only) firmware available for it is over a year old. And the available firmware is extremely buggy (not ready for production in my testing). Other Cambium WiFi 6 products have had multiple versions of firmware released in the past year.
I’ve inquired about the availability of new firmware for this model a couple of months ago and was told by Cambium it would be released in Q2. We’re in Q3 now and no new firmware has been posted. Would anyone from Cambium like to make a public statement as to if/when new firmware for the X7-35X will be forthcoming?
@anderp I heard from support yesterday that a kernel panic in the 7.1.1 code is a known bug. It also affects the XE3 line as well. Cambium did not provide an ETA on a fix. We are experiencing the same problem.
@anderp Also have at least 2 other issues with 7.1 code. First, various 2.4 clients cannot connect to it (that issue is being tracked in a different thread). Second, I’m also seeing Device Stuck errors followed by a reboot. 7.1.1 is super buggy, thought the 2nd version of 7.x would be stable, but it’s not. Best to stay on 6.x for now if you can.
was running 7.1.1-r5 at home It was not having kernel panic anymore. Devices were staying connected but I don’t have 2 units to work in roaming. Its currently unplugged while I chase another issue.
Ah, I see. It sounds like this is widespread enough to justify pulling the firmware from those units’ download pages, or at least some red text warning about issues with known-problematic models, IMO.
I wanted to run 7.x because I’m in Australia and our regulator just added 160MHz of spectrum to the 6GHz band in October and with that we finally have 4 non-overlapping 160MHz channels, so it’s not a big deal to downgrade but it’s a bit annoying.
I’ve opened a ticket with Cambium just for tracking purposes if nothing else; it’d be nice to have some info about what the actual problem is, but I suspect I won’t get much in the way of details out of them
@anderp I agree with you, the 7.1.1-r5 firmware should be pulled from the Cambium website. But, I highly doubt that will happen. Getting the code out to the public gives Cambium a much larger test bed. In my experience in dealing with them since their purchase of Xirrus in 2019 is that their internal QA/QC/testing is extremely limited. We have had to back-rev the firmware on all of our XE5-8 units in production. The code was simply unusable. Cambium didn’t give me any more detail other than the kernel panics are a known issue. Not sure if it only happens in busy/crowded APs, in cnMaestro on-site vs cloud managed, etc., they didn’t elaborate or provide an ETA on a fix. After putting things back on 6.6.2.1-r5 all is stable.
I’m curious if they have provided you with any additional details?
Forgot to update… put the X7 back in. Everything was fine for a few days. Then my Ring dropped off again. Won’t reconnect no matter what unless I cut the power to it and change vendors.
Sent a support file to cambium and unplugged unit and put it back in the box again.
Running the XV2-21X with 7.x firmware to see what happens.
