Hi all,
the PTP450i model has a Bridging Functionality setting which can be either Enabled or Disabled.
The manual says the following which does not help at all.
Select whether you want bridge table filtering active (Enable) or not (Disable) on this
BH.
Disable: allows user to use redundant BHs without causing network addressing
problems. Through a spanning tree protocol, this reduces the convergence time from
25 minutes to few seconds. However, you must disable bridge table filtering as only a
deliberate part of your overall network design since disabling it allows unwanted
traffic across the wireless interface.
Enable: Allows user to enable bridge functionality.
For a start, what is “bridge table filtering”? This must be different to the radio acting like a network bridge. The radio does not participate in Spanning Tree Protocol so it’s not a network bridge as such!
Under what circumstances would I disable the Bridge Functionality setting and what would be the impact? Would the radio simply become a network repeater. Such behaviour would be perfect for me as I have Cisco switches in the network which do Spanning Tree Protocol already.
For information, this is not for an “ISP style” network with end users so some common assumptions do not apply!
Thanks for your help
