Mounting option on ePMP 4600 SM

In reply to:

Complete tangent, Do those radios actually come with Hose Clamps for mounting, or was that by choice? I’m firmly in camp “U-Bolt” so just curious.

Unfortunately… Yes. Hose clamps.

Wow, color me underwhelmed with that…

Over the years, I have always had to buy good quality hose clamps from the hardware store. The ones provided with other radios didn’t allow for them to be properly tightened. Hopefully these are better.

The unit can be modified to use the (far superior) bracket from the 450b or force 200 dish with a bit of grinding. As you can see in the photo here, it is only a few mm off. If you grind out the upper hole (with the bolt in it in the picture), you can make it work.

Ah yes, I am familiar with grinding down the tabs on the force dishes. Had many installs that needed to change the orientation of the radio, and without modification the ports would have been facing upright. Started grinding down stacks of them and giving each of our guys 3-5 to have in the truck. Just always chalked it up to engineer oversight.

Finally found a bracket I ground the tabs off of to change dish orientation. On the force 200’s I was comfortable doing this because they still attached with bolts. Worked very well.

Could anyone post a pic of a 4600 SM mounting bracket?

4625 and 4525 bracket is the same:

If like me, you don’t like the hose clamp mechanism - grind out the bracket a small bit (marked in black sharpie) and you can use the clamp from the 450b, Force 200, Force 425. I would love it if cambium would re-design the 4525/4625 bracket to use the same clamp as all of the other radios.

Holy crap, that’s absolutely pathetic… I cant believe this is actually the mounting system they implemented. And I complained about the Force 300-25 bracket lol.

And so you are stuck with that orientation with original mounting system are you not?

I complained about the Force brackets directly to cambium at a show, I’d love it if some of the Alpha testers complained about this stuff in early testing. If it’s anything like Ubnt back in the day, its all fanboys who thing the company can do no wrong lol

I am not going to lie, just the bracket itself is turning me off from going with 4500/4600 lineup… the 4500 and 4600 AP have hose claps too? :man_facepalming:

Despite being a tester for years, by the time a product gets into my hands to test, it’s past alpha and too far along in the design process to make changes for things like the mounting brackets. Many people have voiced their concerns with the mounting brackets on every Cambium radio but seem to fall on deaf ears. Why Cambium decides to change these things from generation to generation instead of an iterative design process that strives to make things better with each new generation is beyond me. Who knows what goes on in the mind of @Cambium_Joe

Ah wasn’t meaning to call anyone out on here. Just burnt out from the old days with Ubnt and their “Super User” squad lol

The lack of commonality in mounting parts not only makes our lives more difficult but no doubt raises costs for Cambium, too. I just don’t understand what the thought process is here.

The one saving grace of the 4525 and 4625 bracket is that you can flip the feed horn easily and have the bracket on either left or right side without further modification.

I don’t know if you ever used the old UBNT NanoBridges, but they offered a smaller one called the NB-M5-22 and that was the worst design I’ve ever seen. Once the radio was clicked into the bracket, there was no way to get it out without taking apart the whole assembly. We just filed down the tabs for easy access later.

Im going to have to consider other 6GHz options, each day something new about cambiums 6ghz comes out and its usually complete disappointment from an operator on one of the many forums and FB pages… getting tough though as Tarana is strong but beyond our budget and from most of the chatter cambium is falling way behind, ubiquiti has no options for AX or 6GHz… will have to find the hidden gem out there. :joy:

I hope they can sort it out. Lots of operators relying on this stuff. Even on a 450m budget, the Tarana stuff is in a different league pricewise still. We’re also watching the CMBM stock price very carefully, no sense if jumping into another large investment if the stock is going to keep dropping for us.
