A feature that has saved us onsite hands numerous times in the Meraki world that would be awesome to see in the NSE line is the ability for a WAN interface that is configured for a static address to fall back to trying to get a DHCP address if the device cant reach the configured default gateway.
We have had situations over the years when a cable modem connection is supposed to have a static address but turns out they provisioned it wrong or someone didn’t forward along a notice to update the static to a new address. Those connections often times will work in DHCP mode when the assigned static is not functional.
Functionally, the device uses its configured settings but in an unusual circumstance where the static configured default gateway can’t be reached, having the primary wan interface attempt to acquire a DHCP address to get out to the internet is a very handy feature.
The trade-off here being that this ‘breaks’ things like tunnels and what not while on DHCP but it gets the router back online for remote diagnostics, saving an onsite visit while fixing the issue.
