Ping Watchdog over F300! Finally Cambium got it!

Hi all,

We're experiencing a lot of hardware freeze over F300 PTP links.... finally we've seen that on new 4.3.1 beta firmware Cambium introduced ping watchdog functionality to avoid hardware reboot when the system hungs suddenly!!!

Thanks.... it's just about 3 years that we asked over ePMP to introduce ping watchdog functionality!!! Was it so hard to do??? :)

Now we really hope that we've finished going to towers to do hardware reboot to F300 every 3-4 days!!!

A) We haven't had any Force300 stability issues for the last few releases. We are running a Force300 backhaul link with 51 days uptime.

B) That being said, I'm also happy to see a ping rebooter, and also wondering why it took so long? NOW, if we can get a 'test' mode without waiting another x years, that would be awesome! We just find it so dificult to use these as PTP units, where we are only one typo setting mistake away from a two hour round trip - so being able to 'activate in test mode' and having the radios revert to the last known good settings if they can't relink in 3 mins or 5 mins or whatever... that would be awesome.

Actually, now that they have a Ping Rebooter... all we really need is to have the 'save' function split (which is really 'save changes & activate changes') split into two options...  'Activate with Save' and 'Activate without Saving'.  Then if there is a ping watchdog set to ping the other end of the PTP link, it's just that simple...  do an 'Activate without Saving' and if it can't relink in whatever time period we have the ping watchdog set to, it'll reboot (or reset or whatever you choose) back to the previously saved settings.  Viola... a 'test mode'.

One brand we currently use has only an 'Activate' option, and when you choose that, it pops up a 'Save before Activating Y/N?' requester, and it's that easy.  We can modify and 'Activate' to test various settings, and if we screw up in the process (or if we pick some settings which simply can't link due to noise or whatever) then the radios will fail in their ping watchdog and reboot to the last saved settings in 3 minutes.

Hi ninedd!

Just a small teaser from my side that you will see it soon.

Dmitry,

Will the goodies we are seeing in 4.3.xx software port over to the current ePMP line of radios we are all using once they are able to take the 4.3.xx software?

Yes, you will see 4.3.x for current ePMP line of radios soon bringing the compatibility with 11AC as well as other goodies. We are actively testing it and will post beta soon. We are very concious not to break any of the production networks.

You will get all the platfrom-independent things like watchdog on the original ePMP. The major part that is still missing is Web-based spectrum analyzer for original ePMP.
