PMP 450 SM's Keep Rebooting

Hello everyone!

We just replaced an old DataSat legacy node with 2 900MHz PMP 450i AP’s last week, and one of our AP’s keeps having the PMP 450 SM’s rebooting at the same exact time every 20 minutes or so. Luckily there’s only 3 subscribers on that AP currently, but I’ve been receiving complaints about their connection dropping frequently, and I’m at a loss on what may be causing it. I’m still relatively green when it comes to troubleshooting the devices as I primarily do IT support for the organization that we work for.

From what I can gather, the AP is not logging any event’s occuring, with the session log being blank. But the SM’s session logs look like this:

07/28/2023 : 19:16:52 UTC : Event: SMSESACTIVATE, NewState: REGISTERING, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:17:06 UTC : Event: SMSESINS, NewState: REGISTERED, Flag 2
07/28/2023 : 19:17:09 UTC : Event: SMSESFAIL, MsgType: SMVCERR, NewState: OOSERVICE, Flag 215
07/28/2023 : 19:17:22 UTC : Event: SMSESACTIVATE, NewState: REGISTERING, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:17:40 UTC : Event: SMSESFAIL, MsgType: REGREQTOMAXERR, NewState: OOSERVICE, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:17:57 UTC : Event: SMSESACTIVATE, NewState: REGISTERING, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:18:15 UTC : Event: SMSESFAIL, MsgType: REGREQTOMAXERR, NewState: OOSERVICE, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:18:35 UTC : Event: SMSESACTIVATE, NewState: REGISTERING, Flag 0
07/28/2023 : 19:18:45 UTC : Event: SMSESINS, NewState: REGISTERED, Flag 2
07/28/2023 : 19:18:46 UTC : Event: SMAUTHORMSG, NewState: REGISTERED, Flag 0

And that is maybe 1/10th of the entire log. Any help or pointers to finding out why the SM’s keep rebooting over and over again would be greatly appreciated!

Hey @Jacob_Ford! Welcome to the Cambium forums!

So first off… if an AP or SM reboots, there will be a notification at the bottom of the radio’s event log displaying why it rebooted. In this example, it shows that the SM rebooted because a firmware image was applied to it:

When you check your SM’s that are rebooting, what is showing up in the event log?

Second, what firmware revision are you running on your AP and SM’s? The current recommend stable revision is R22.1.
