PTP 820 6 GHz random reboot

Has anyone had any issues with a PTP820 rebooting after a year or more of run time? I’ve got multiple PTP820’s and after running a year or so they seem to randomly reboot and then it will be fine for another 12 months or so.

Units are feed from a dual-redundant UPS system, no other devices have lost power or had issues. The event log shows nothing other than indicating it came up from a cold boot like it had been power cycled.

Currently running on 10.5.0.0.0.258 but I’m wondering if maybe there is a memory leak or something in the unit. Specific model # is C060082B014A

Thanks!

Was just replying back to this as I’ve had a couple more incidents of this re-occurring on this one radio. I have another radio at the same site, same power system and it is not having the issue with this random reboot. I’m really struggling as to what may be going on. I’ve had a tower crew look at things before and they say the connections are tight on the radio. The event log indicates a power up occurred but I can find no evidence of a power loss occurring, but is that the generic message any time the unit powers up or reboots?

Here is the event log from the time in question:

Have you tried updating the firmware to the newest stable release 12.7?

I have not, that was kind of question I’ve had is are there any known issues with 10.5.x that might be related to this? I’ve got 8 of these units running 10.5.x and more than one has had the issue but yet others have not had the issue.

I’ve wondered if it might be some kind of memory leak?

The interesting this is these radios normally gather all kinds of information when they are on and operating about potential illegal interference, and when they reboot, they don’t do that for a while.

hmmm… again makes me wonder if there could be some kind of memory leak involved. I don’t suppose there is any method to i.e. telnet into the radio and look at the system statistics like processor utilization or memory utilization? We had an issue not too long ago with a bunch of network switches that all started rebooting around the same time, we started looking at the others that were still up and they had no free memory, we then asked the manufacturer with the evidence we found and they were like ‘oh yeah, that version does have a memory leak’ but I do recall someone on a forum tipping us off to the issue and how to check for it as well…

It kind of doesn’t matter if it’s a memory leak or not… support is going to ask you to update to the newest revision and then work from there to determine if there’s an actual memory leak and then provide a fix in a future release. So the best thing you can do is just update your firmware now and hope that whatever is causing your issues is resolved.
