Does anyone know what will happen to the PTP820S product line now that Cambium is sold to Airspan, I didn’t see if Aispan picked up the PTP820S.
The PTP820s is already discontinued and now EOL.
It has been replaced by the PTP850 series. I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet who will acquire the PTP850 series, although the OEM, Ceregon, has mentioned that they will help operators out with firmware support
PTP820S/C was already end of sale. I don’t remember if it was end of support.
Another question would be whether anyone picks up the 850C and 850CX. There was a statement they were trying to negotiate an arrangement with the OEM manufacturer (we all know who that is). I’m not sure if it was Airspan saying that or Cambium. It might fit in with the unlicensed PTP products Airspan picked up.
Then there’s the question, even if Airspan did take over the 850 products, would they support the 820 series which was no longer being sold?
You’re right, looks like for the 820s specifically, support doesn’t end till 12/20/2029, but that’s moot unless someone picks up the line.
That’s what I thought too, we are planning to run them until they are EOL. Good thing we have two spares just in case.
I received an email from Ceragon offering technical support, I didn’t know they are the OEM manufacturer I’ll give them a call to find out more. For those who replaced 820S with 850C I presume it’s a straight swap no need to re-align if keeping the same antennas?
No need to realign, but you will most likely need the OMT kit and install the OMT adapter.
Can you elaborate more on the OMT Kit and OMT adapter is there an installation guide for it?
Ask Ceregon about it. There’s also some videos and documentation here:
Keep in mind that you will need to replace both ends. And 850C and 850CX are two different products, and don’t talk to each other. In all likelihood you would go with the CX. It is less expensive than the C, smaller, similar in form factor to the 820, and it’s unlikely you want the exotic features only available in the C model. Also of course if you are going to operate dual pol, you will need to do frequency coordination and modify your license.
They are deleting stuff from the Cambium website, maybe it’s a work in progress. Oddly all the PTP products both licensed and unlicensed are gone, but PMP450 and EVO are still there.
So far, firmware downloads haven’t disappeared.
In addition to the information already provided. There is an Airspan FAQ maybe already linked to here, maybe not, dated September 24th of this year with several updates directed towards end customers. Assuming you are an end customer reaching out through tech support and established vendors or one you may already use of Cambium Networks askng for that end customer FAQ it does have information that might help.
