QOS (Subscriber Module Priority Confusion)

  1. When subscriber module priority is set to high on the SM do I also need to have access to the AP and enable QOS ? or just the SM is enough even if on the AP QOS is disabled?

  2. When subscriber module priority is enabled? does it affect both downlink and uplink? or it only affects uplink? SM (Force 300-25l) AP (ePMP 3000)

  3. Is it possible for subscriber module priority being set to high cause high retransmissions, error drop packets and capacity drop packets?

Hi @Atang_Maretele ,

Answering your first two questions: when you enable QoS Traffic Priority on the AP side, it affects the downlink. When you enable it on the SM side, it affects the uplink. You can enable it on either side or on both sides, depending on your requirements.

Regarding your third question: QoS does not directly affect retransmission rates or packet drops. These are usually caused by interference or incorrect device installation.

QoS can have an indirect impact in cases where the link already has a high traffic overhead (for example, heavy traffic with Q-in-Q, MPLS, etc.), because QoS requires additional device resources to classify and manipulate traffic.

If you are experiencing an issue with your link, I recommend Raise Ticket using the option in the top-right corner of this page. Our engineers will assist you in isolating and resolving the issue.
