Allen,

So if a project calls for re-using existing RW dishes, but we want a remote mounted radio, what parts would be required for converting from Dragonwave radios? Speciffically on the antenna side.  I know the PTP820 Remote

Mount kits.

Jeff

if the antenna provide standard flange, we can always go with remote mount for PTP820, then use flexible waveguide to connect PTP820 radio to the antenna port.

Here is a list of SKUs you may need for PTP820 Remote mount

The PTP820S and PTP820G RFU-C share the same mount bracket. For 6-13 GHz, an adaptor is required as the Radio flange is proprietary.

Allen,

Two Last questions.  What is the difference between the Adaptor Kit and the Conversion Kit.  (the drawings are a little unclear) Are both needed to change a SP RW DW antenna into a DP RW antenna for use with a PTP820C?

Jeff

For adaptor, you really don't need to do any change on antenna. You just need add the adaptor, then add the PTP820 radio.

When use converter, you basically need remove the old plate and replaced with the new converter.

From performance point of view, there is no real difference.  You only need one of them. Personally i prefer to use converter than adaptor. As converter make the antenna more like the direct mount PTP820 dish. The adaptor is a add up, it add extra weight to the antenna.

Perfect!  Excellent explaination.

Thank You,

Jeff

Do these conversion kits also work with any existing Radomes present on the antennas?

I have several Trango Apex Plus 11 GHz links, one of which has the Trango branded 3 ft dishes which perform well but are big suckers (kind of a deep parabolic design I think).  I desperately need more throughput on this particular link, which is also fairly long, and I was figuring I would have to switch to 6 GHz, take down the Trango monster dishes, and put up new ones.  But in Link Planner, it doesn't look like 6 GHz is light years better than 11 GHz on this link.

So does this mean I could use the Remec adapter to reuse the Trango dishes with PTP820S radios?  (Of course I would have to go through PCNs and license modification.)  Has anybody done this, and is the performance as calculated?

One more question:  why are there different adapters for single and dual polarization?

"why are there different adapters for single and dual polarization?"

Wouldn't customers be a little skeptical if we offered a one-size fits all adapter?

:)

If the link is single polarization (V or H), it needs a single pol adapter.

If the link is dual polarization (Cross-pol or XPIC, ACAP or CCDP), it needs a dual pol adapter.

Please let me know if I've misunderstood your question!

Thanks for using the forum!

Dave

Please check "PTP 820 REMEC Adaptor Installation Guide" under PTP820 support web page.

It listed what kind of antenna and configuration can use the REMEC adaptor.

Do the antennas come in single and dual pol?  I thought they were universal.  And that the adapter was basically a waveguide adapter.  I'm trying to understand what about the adapter would make it single or dual pol.  Also not understanding why the dual pol adapter couldn't be used for single pol.

Why do I care?  Because I'm trying to avoid doing something dumb that won't work.

The single pol interface is rectangular, whereas the dual pol interface is circular.

Copacetic?

REMEC ODU offer single polarization in both rectangular and circular format as ODU to Antenna interface.

For example, for PTP800, Cambium chose rectangular interface on 6, 11, 18 and 23 GHz. But Trango chose circular for their REMEC ODU.

For example, if you had a PTP800 link want upgrade to PTP820, you can only go with single interface, as it is rectangular. But if you had a Trango link want upgrade to PTP820, you can go with either single pol or dual pol adpator.

Does it help?

Hi

We are trying to reuse antennas(Andrew) 11GHz from RFU-P Seragon with PTP820S.

As I uderstand in this case we need to use antenna adaptor. I found a similar adapter () for the Seragon, but I coundn't find such adapter from Cambium.

I have been traing to understand manual PTP 820 REMEC Adaptor Installation Guide but I'm not sure that this is what i need.

What adapter should i use?

Hi Anton,

The PTP820 Remec installation guide is for converting a PTP800/Remec interface to PTP820. You said you wanted to reuse an Andrews 11GHz so you can just use the part below. It's a converter kit that allows you to remove the interface and replace it with the converter kit to mate between the dish flange and the PTP820S radio.

Hello,
I hope you are doing well. Could you tell me what kind of shielded antenna is compatible with your base? What model can you recommend?
