Recovering cnReach N500 radio web page

RECOVER CN-REACH N500 RADIOS:

In some instances, the cnReach N500 is no longer reachable via the web browser GUI and displays “404 error”. This happens very rarely but when it does happen it is often immediately after a firmware upgrade. Since every cnReach radio has two partitions for memory, the problem can be addressed by telling the radio to swap to other partition after the reboot. Following are some of the actions that may be taken to restore access to radio:

  1. Check for the latest version of the internet browser (Chrome for example is recommended). If it is not running at the latest version, then first upgrade your internet browser to the latest available version.
  2. Clear memory cache for the browser. Sometimes, heavy memory cache found at the internet browser prevents radio access through internet browser GUI. The procedure to clear cache for Chrome browser is given below:
    1. Click on three dots (menu) at the top right corner of Chrome window
    2. Click on “History”
    3. Click on “Clear browsing data”
    4. Pick “time range” from the dropdown menu to “All time”
    5. Make sure “Cached images and files” option is checked
    6. Click on “Clear data” at the bottom right corner
  3. It is recommended to reboot cnReach N500 radio prior to any firmware or OS upgrade.

FIRST METHOD:

Try accessing the administration page by typing the following at your internet browser:

http://<IP address of the radio xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>/admin.htm

  1. If successful, switch partition, which will bring the radio back to the previous partition, which is presumably in a functioning state.
  2. Following is the procedure required to switch “Boot from partition”:
    • Go to “Administration” tab on the left-hand side of GUI
    • Click on “Change” button under “Boot from partition: 1 or 2”

This will switch the radio to the other partition after reboot.

   3. Initiate radio reboot by going to the "Adminitration" tab and clicking on "Reboot" under "Reboot Device" option.

   4. Upgrade the firmware by following the procedure from the User Guide, which can be found from the Cambium Networks Software Download site:

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/n500/

   5. Upon a successful firmware upgrade, both partitions should now have functioning web pages.

SECOND METHOD:

If unable to view other web pages in the UI, log into the radio via serial (admin/admin is the default username/password) and issue the ‘bootpart’ command, which will switch partitions (same as above)

To access radio through serial port, use the following procedure:

  1. Connect Serial port to Serial port 1 of cnReach N500 radio
  2. Open a terminal emulator program such as teraterm, Putty or Hyper Terminal and connect to the PC’s COM port
  3. Click on “Serial”
  4. User Speed (baud rate) as 115200
  5. Data bits 8
  6. Stop bits 1
  7. Click “Open” to open Putty Serial session
  8. Login as admin
  9. Enter “?” to review all the possible commands
  10. You may want to confirm by typing “whoami” to see if you are logged in as an admin
  11. Enter “bootpart” command to switch the partition
  12. Enter “reboot” command to reboot the radio
  13. Active partition has swapped, when the radio emerges from the reboot.

Upgrade the firmware by following the procedure from the User Guide, which can be found from the Cambium Networks Software Download site:

   https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/n500/

Upon a successful firmware update, both partitions should now have functioning web pages.
