Release 8 & Hardware Scheduling

I was just watching the April Webinar re: Release 8.0, and the presenter kept saying “No SMs have to be touched!”

I (think I) understand that the SM must be a P9 in order to support hardware scheduling, and that software release 8 only supports P9/Hardware Scheduling…

Am I confused?

Is there a fancy trade-in program for < P9 SMs like there is for APs?

All sm’s support hardware scheduling. P7, P8, and P9. P7, and P8’s must have hardware scheduling enabled with the CNUT Advantage hardware scheduling tool.
