RF Power restrictions for India

Hi,

I was trying to find latest TRAI document on RF power restrictions for Indoor/Outdoor enterprise WIFI, but could not locate any.

The "sh wireless radios channels IN " gives me below output, the power with the 5Ghz seems very low, need to verify the same with some documentation. If this is indeed the case, I guess it’s essential to factor in these restrictions while using the wifi designer.

With XV2-2

Not sure, why the Max-Power varies across APs, but the EIRP is the same as 23, guess that is what TRAI restricts and maybe not the power ?

Documentation across OEMs seems to vary, one such example below:

Thw antenna Gain of XV2-2 is 6 dBi(5Ghz), Omni . Max EIRP = MAX Power of Radio(17 dBm) + Antenna Gain(6dBi) = 23dBm

The antenna Gain of E410 is 5 dBi(5Ghz), Omni. Max EIRP = MAX Power of Radio(18 dBm) + Antenna Gain(5dBi) = 23dBm

So EIRP of 23 dBm is what the max power allowed in India for 5 Ghz ? Because the AP datasheet says 31dBm for XV2-2.

I would really appreciate if we can have some TRAI document which restricts this to 23 dBm.

I could find a very old doc here. Do not know if this is the prevalent on. If I understand the document correctly, the max EIRP seems to be 27 Vs 23 what Cambium is currently giving.

If this is true, I would request correct EIRP levels to be updated on the APs so that we can use the full potential of the power levels allowed.

@vbhoj74

Please check your configuration w.r.t placement on the device.

Run CLI command “show config” and search for parameter “placement”. See if its configured to “Indoor” or “Outdoor”.

Above values are true for “Indoor”.

Right, tested & got the hint on how to increase the power. :innocent: Hope the internal working (advance roaming, Auto RF, etc) has nothing to do with indoor/outdoor settings.

I would really appreciate if someone can post the latest TRAI document on power levels for indoor & outdoor WLANs.
