SM as a Back Haul

we used a SM as a back haul for about 3 month’s, so we know it will work, butthe guy who set it up here is gone. and we want to do it again. we have 6 900 AP’s and the SM/BH is a 2.4

There is nothing strange on using a SM to feed the AP, just keep in mind that the DL/UP ratio on the AP should be set to 50% and you will have less bandwidth available for the other customers SM, if present.
The feeding SM must be configured in bridge as usual.

cool.

when you say bridge mode. no protocol filtering, NAT disabled? is that what you mean?

one thing that happened was, when i would plug the SM straight to the CMM, i could get online for about 5 seconds, then nothing. but now i ran the SM thru a switch before the CMM and it seems fine now

Yes
QoS on "backhaul SM" should be kept at maximum rates.
