Speed improvement in 5.9.1

I just wanted to post about a point-to-point link which I upgraded a week or so ago. It had been running 5.8.0 firmware, and I upgrade it to 5.9.1 - that was the only change. This is just a little PTP link for one client, this link is only 20 Mhz wide, and it’s just to get around some obstructions… but the point is, that it went from 166 mbit, to 206 Mbit with just firmware upgrade. So Kudos to Cambium!

What do you see in a real-world speedtest.net test?

The ongoing problem I’m observing is the Wireless Link Test on the SM, which uses UDP. Looks great, but TCP is still very hit-and-miss.

With 5.9.1, our ePMP radio link tests are pretty close to speed test websites and also using Mikrotik bandwidth testing. Speeds will be a bit lower then the radio link tests, but as you mentioned, this is probably due to UDP vs TCP testing. Here’s an example of e4k 4x4 @ 80MHz 75/25 with 11 SM’s, and tests using an F4625 SM in NAT mode, with 80% of downlink at DS MCS 9 - 256-QAM 5/6 or lower modulation.

@jessearcher are you seeing speed tests that are significantly different on 5.9.1?

Via various Speedtest.net tests, we’re intermittently seeing about 1/2 the SM UDP test’s throughput.

Sometimes, it’s good, getting 80%-90% of the UDP test result; other times, it’s 50%.

4525L using bridge mode. TDD 75/25.

Ping also a bit all over the show:

Compared to ePMP3000, where we see consistent speedtest.net results = SM UDP throughput test.

Just to keep everyone updated on that topic.
The investigation has been conducted and we found out that the TCP burst issue may impact Speed Test results in case the Speed Test Server(or any other traffic generation tool) is using 10G interface. The issue is not seen with 1G interface used.
We are working to get this issue addressed asap.

Thank you.

Similar issue for us with bridged CPE on both 5.9.1 and 5.9.2. Seeing 500mbps link test but router speedtest getting 200mbps max. It used to work fine until it didn’t.

We disabled the cambiumAccelrationEngine via the CLI and rebooted the CPE and getting 400+ mbps from the router now.

Hopefully this helps someone!

config set cambiumAccelerationEngine 3
config set
reboot
