Strange GPS Sync Problem

I have a site with a 5.7 20 Meg backhaul (slave), 2 2.4 AP’s, and 1 5.7 AP.

Due to a new tower, I moved the backhaul timing to the site, installed a CMM, and got everything up and running… Almost.

Using the Sync to Power Port setting on all devices, I can successfully receive sync on the 2.4 AP’s, but not on the 5.7 AP or the 5.7 Backhaul.

The CMM shows Sync OK, and 7 tracked satellites. Switching ports on the CMM has no change

All AP’s are running 7.3.6, and the backhauls are running 7.0.7.

Has anybody else ran into this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Is this a CMM or a CMM Micro?

If it is a CMM, then you need to set the timing to Timing Port.

If it is a CMMmicro, then set the timing to Power Port.

If one is getting it, then they all are getting it. If you still have problems after checking the software settings and it’s a CMM, then check your RJ11 terminations.

It is a CMMMicro, using the power port for power and sync, properly configured, and passing traffic wonderfully

Then that is odd. If you put one of the 5.7 AP or BH in a known working port does it work?

Unfortunately, no.

I’m not sure if I have a cable problem, if there is a problem with the software, or what.

I thought I would try the forum and see if anybody else has seen this issue.

I would troubleshoot it like this:

- Take a known working temp AP and a known good cable and plug them into one of the ports not passing sync.
- If after connecting the known good temp AP and cable to the CMMmicro you do not get sync, then I would guess a bad CMMmicro
- If the temp AP works, then I would swag a new cable up to the existing AP from the same port on the CMMmicro.
- If the existing AP starts working with the temp cable, I would re-terminate or replace the existing cable
- If the exisitng AP does not work you have bad APs (not likely)

Hope this helps

Well, you have (1) 5.7 AP and (1) 5.7 BH-Slave on the same site. Terminating the BH-Slave into the CMM Micro is NOT providing the unit with timing. As you can see from the BHS configuration interface, you cannot set the timing source on a slave module. The Master module that the Slave is connected to via RF is providing your slave with its timing.

The problem could be that you have the 5.7 AP and the 5.7 BHS on the same tower, in too close of physical proximity to one another, and/or in too close of frequency proximity. Your AP could be transmitting and desening your BH-Slave, and vice-versa.

There are ways to get around this, such as physical and frequency seperation. The first thing that I would try, however, would be to kill power to the BH-Slave and see if the AP then gains sync. If it does, then the problem is most likely what I mentioned above.

Is the site/location that the BH-Master which connects to this BH-Slave also timed by a CMM?

Is there an update to this one?
