Troubleshooting ePMP SM Auto-negotiation Issues with Early-model Ethernet Equipment

When connecting ePMP SMs to Ethernet equipment such as older switches, cameras, etc. if you experience:

 

  • a lack of auto-negotiation (no Ethernet connection established)

or

  • data is not passed via the SM's Ethernet port unless the Ethernet port speed is set to 10 Mbps

it is possible that the connected switch, camera or other equipment is using an auto-negotiation protocol interpretation which differs from the current standards.  

 

To enable the ePMP SM to auto-negotiate with the connected Ethernet equipment, a crossover Ethernet cable may need to be used.  This cable may be constructed per the wiring diagram below to restore auto-negotiation capabilities between the devices:
