U-NII 4 band

Are there plans to open up this band in Cambium products per the FCC allowing Special Temporary Licenses?

Yes, if you've recieved a temporary STA from the FCC, then you'll need to email support and they'll give you a key.

Does anyone know the requirements or process to obtain the STA?

Apparently the window of opportunity to apply for this STA has closed. If you're a member of WISPA, they had information on the process and were helping people apply for it.

EDIT... so the window of opportunity was to have a WISPA-friendly lawyer help you file an STA for free. As mentioned below, you can still apply for an STA, and WISPA has some resources and contacts (for a fee) that can help you with this process.

Anyone can apply for STA at any time. There is no window.

Now is considered an "Emergency Situation".

If you're a member of WISPA, you can certainly consult with WISPA counsel, who helped file the initial traunch of Operator requests. However, we have several customers that have successfully obtained STA on their own, using the instructions and guidelines set forth HERE.

Eric is right... if you obtain the STA, we will gladly direct you to the software that will enable 5.850 to 5.895 GHz for both 450 and ePMP. The STA that have been granted so far are for a 60 day period of time.

Does the special firmware allow two 20 MHz channels to run side by side with a 5 MHz separation (ie: same tower)? Are you allowing all channels to be used for APs in that 45 MHz window or just certain channels?

It is adding these 45 MHz to the top of the UNII-3 band. Actual channel avaialbility depends on hardware type and varies. There are still significant rules around out of band emissions associated with unlicensed usage.

Both ePMP and 450 equipment support many various channel sizes, again, depending on the type of hardware being used.

With a 450 system, using GPS synchronization, no guard band or frequency separation is required, so you can cover 360 degrees using N=2 (i.e. ABAB frequency setup). For some further discussion about what this extra frequency can do for you, you can see this blog I wrote about it when Commissioner Pai first mentioned this possibility.

Stephan Coran at Lerman Senter Communications Law Attorneys was the lawyer that was helping WISPA members file for their STA's. So far he's had success getting 30+ WISP's 5.9 STA's.

If you are filing an STA application, you will need to include an attachment titled “Stop Buzzer Contact Information”. Just a few lines with direct contact information (cellphone?) for someone who can immediately stop transmission or resolve interference issues.
