WiFi Designer Release 4.2.0 (New 3D Propagation Engine)

On October 30, 2024, we launched a new version of WiFi Designer featuring an advanced 3D propagation engine. This significant upgrade enhances the previous version, which assumed that access points (APs) and clients were always at the same height. With the increasing availability of customized WiFi solutions, such as wallplate APs and high-performance connectorized APs, it’s essential to accurately account for both APs and clients in three-dimensional space.

Users now have the following options:

  • Set the height of the AP.

  • Select whether an AP is oriented as a Ceiling (horizontal) mount or a Wall (vertical) mount.

  • Set the client height.

  • For directional APs/Antennas users can set a downtilt.

Note: The 3D support only extends to the newest 12 APs added to WFD. All previous APs will still run in 2D mode where it is assumed the AP and client are at the same height.

Additionally the engine has been optimized, so users should see a performance improvement.

Hello,

Can you help me clarify what is client height ?

The client height is the height of the remote device connecting to the AP. (e.g. laptop, mobile phone, tablet,…)

Because Access Point antennas have varying strength in different directions, modeling the coverage in 3D space helps improve accuracy. Understanding the height of the client is a key part of this.

I am unable to log onto WiFi Designer
