Will cnHeat support new FCC BDC Technology Code usage?

Hello

We recently received an email about the FCC BDC’s new allowed use of technology codes for Fixed Wireless. Basically they will only allow one technology code per location, with precedence in the table below:

We often have technology codes overlapping the same area, resulting in a polygon with multiple technology codes. Will cnHeat make changes in the BDC reporting module’s job/polygon merging process to take into account these new restrictions? What we would need is for the merging to output only one technology code (based on the table) with its corresponding down/up speeds.

Thanks

Jean,
We do plan to address this and hope to have a solution in place by Dec 31st.
We are evaluating requirements now.

Thanks,

it really seems like the FCC is just trying to irritate the vendors like cambium who provide us a solution that is simplified and free to use ao that the Vendors will finally say they can spend any more dev time every BDC and we will all have to kiss the PE ring

It seems with the new guidance we are no longer allowed to have overlapping 70/71/72 tech codes. So if you have a CBRS tower with 25/3 (Tech code 71/72) that covers an area and Gigabit symmetric service with 6 GHz or 60 GHz (Tech code 70) that covers the same area, you must reduce to only one.

The guide above seems to indicate that you should prioritize the tech code, but the BDC helpdesk has indicated that users should prioritize the fastest speed.

We are considering having 3 options for users in cnHeat.

  1. Prioritize “reliability” (Tech Code 71 → Tech Code 72 → Tech Code 70)
  2. Prioritize “speed”
  3. Legacy (Keep the individual layers for the distinct tech codes. Non-BDC compliant.)

Any issues with this approach?

Having the options sounds great. We have 3 technology codes and greatly varying speeds, so these options seem a good approach. I don’t see any issues.

@Seth_Poche I like that approach with giving users a choice. I can see where some areas might need to list the 71/72 code to protect a location from over build even though the 70 tech might provide faster speeds. Especially since BEAD still wont count code 70 in most cases.
