cnMaestro 5.1.0 (Cloud) Release notes

Introduction

This document highlights new features and significant updates in cnMaestro Cloud.

Important: Web Browser
Restart your browser (or clear the browser cache with a hard reload) if you have UI problems after the 5.1.0 update.

Important: Guest Access Portal Deprecated
The Guest Access Portal feature is deprecated and will be fully replaced by the new EasyPass feature in the future.

EasyPass Captive Portals

EasyPass replaces the existing Guest Access Portal to improve the administrator experience when configuring captive portals (which redirect Wi-Fi users to a designated login page before accessing the network). EasyPass portals are subdivided into Guest/Public Access, Employee/Student Access, and Combined.

Guest/Public Access

Guest/Public Access includes the following portal types:

  • One Click
  • Self-Registration
  • Sponsored Guest
  • Voucher
  • Paid
  • WiFi4EU

Employee/Student Access

Employee/Student Access includes the following portal types:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Google Login

Combined

Combined allows aggregation of portal types and includes the following:

  • One-Click and Voucher
  • One-Click and Paid
  • Voucher and Paid

EasyPass is accessed through the Network Services side-tab.

5.1.0-1

A new EasyPass Portal is created by specifying a name and selecting the Portal Type.

ePSK for WPA3

ePSK (Enhanced Pre-Shared Key) ensures a secure and hassle-free experience for residents by eliminating the need to manage numerous PSKs (Pre-Shared Keys). This feature includes:

  • Automatic expiry of ePSKs
  • Seamless renewal of keys
  • Inline modification of ePSKs

For added convenience, ePSKs deactivate on specified future dates, such as a resident’s move-out date. Network managers can adjust these termination dates, ensuring smooth Wi-Fi service for all residents. ePSK support has been extended for WPA3-PSK.

ePSKs are configured within a WLAN Profile.

Picture45

To enable, navigate to the WLAN section and select Enable ePSK Registration Flow.

5.1.0-4

WIDS and WIPS Enhancements X

WIDS (Wireless Intrusion Detection System) works by continuously scanning the wireless spectrum to detect and mitigate potential intrusions. It has been enhanced to support the following sections:

  • Neighboring APs
  • Wired Devices
  • Ad Hoc Networks
  • Allowlist APs

Neighboring APs

Monitor and manage neighboring APs to ensure optimal network performance and security. The user can selectively mark neighboring APs as Allowlist APs or Rogue APs. This functionality enables administrators to categorize neighboring APs based on their legitimacy.

5.1.0-5

Allowlist APs

Configure the SSID and MAC addresses of authorized access points, providing control over permitted devices in the network infrastructure.

To add Allowlist APs:

  1. Navigate to WIDS > Allowlist APs.

  2. Click Add New.

5.1.0-6

  1. Enter the BSSID/MAC address.

  2. Enter SSID.

  3. Click Save.

Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS)

WIPS triggers Wi-Fi devices to de-authenticate Rogue APs and Rogue Clients by sending spoofed de-authentication messages. This enhances wireless security.

Graphical Reports Enhancements X

The following Graphical Reports have been added to cnMaestro and can be mapped to System or Site scope.

  • Top Access Points by Traffic Usage
  • Top Applications by Client Count
  • Top Application Category by Client Count
  • Top Client Types by Traffic Usage
  • Top Sites by Client Count
  • Top SSIDs by Client Count
  • Top Clients by Traffic Usage
  • Top Managed Accounts by Traffic Usage
  • Top Sites by Traffic Usage
  • Top SSIDs by Traffic Usage

5.1.0-8

Site Level WLAN Data X

WLAN data aggregation and display are now available at the Site level, including a Dashboard, Application Dashboard, AP List, and Client List.

WLANs List Under Site

The WLANs active at a Site are displayed as a table with basic statistics.

5.1.0-9

Dashboard for Specific WLAN

Selecting an individual WLAN presents a WLAN Dashboard and WLAN Applications Dashboard, as well as the lists of APs hosting the WLAN and Wireless Clients using it.

5.1.0-10

NSE 3000 Features

Auto VLAN

Auto VLAN enables NSE to automatically learn VLANs from connected Cambium enterprise devices on its Trunk port. This eliminates the need for the network administrator to add VLAN members to the trunk port manually.

The configuration of Auto VLAN is available on the NSE Group > Network page. To check the status, navigate to the NSE Dashboard and review the port status.

5.1.0-11

Vulnerability Workflow

The vulnerability workflow allows the administrator to select vulnerabilities detected on the client devices and move them to the ignore list.

The administrator can maintain an ignore list to track acceptable or low-risk vulnerabilities, indicating they are less likely to impact the system. They may not be remediated immediately or temporarily ignored, or even reactivated from the ignore list.

The Threats and Vulnerabilities widget allows one to quickly navigate to the Vulnerability list.

5.1.0-12

One can select to ignore the vulnerability for individual clients.

5.1.0-13

A Reason is required to ignore the vulnerability for the Client.

5.1.0-14

Ignored Vulnerabilities are visible at the bottom of the page.

5.1.0-15

They can be re-activated if desired.

5.1.0-16

DNS Categorization Tool

The DNS Categorization Tool allows administrators to determine the category of a specific domain, which can be utilized to configure DNS filter rules. The tool’s output not only provides category information for the queried domain but also specifies which DNS filter rule allows or denies it.

To access the tool, navigate to Tools > DNS Categorization.

5.1.0-17

Inbound Filter Rules

By default, the NSE allows traffic from LAN to WAN and blocks traffic originating from WAN towards LAN, if it is not part of an existing flow. However, in some scenarios, it may be necessary to allow traffic from WAN to LAN, especially if NAT is performed by another uplink router towards the service provider.

Enabling the “Allow traffic from WAN to LAN” permits traffic to originate from the WAN and be directed towards LAN devices.

5.1.0-18

60 GHz cnWave Features

Multi-PoP Onboard E2E Controller HA Support X

This feature supports High Availability (HA) in a 60 GHz cnWave Multi-PoP Onboard E2E Controller mesh network deployment. The user can configure a secondary (backup or passive) E2E Controller. If the active primary E2E Controller goes down, the backup or secondary E2E Controller will become active. All the devices report to the secondary E2E Controller until the primary E2E Controller is back online.

Note: The HA feature is supported for 60 GHz cnWave devices that run software version 1.4 or above.

Will the Office 365 sign in option, be coming to the free version of CnMastro like it currently is in the Guest Access Portal, this works well for us. but i can’t see a option in Easypass?

@Andrew_Nicholls we have an advanced version of Office 365 Azure AD integration added with EasyPass as a X feature. Your existing Guest Access Portals should continue to work. How are you using the deprecated Office 365? Can you please explain?

@KumarK In our current Guest Access Portal we have a portal which is setup using the Social Login linked to O365 Application. Which in the Azure app has “Assignments required?” set and 2 groups, a staff and student assigned to control access.in the Azure App we also have supported account types are set to My organization only to restrict only to our Office365 tenant accounts.

If I remember correctly I followed this guide Guest Access using Social Login - Google - Twitter - Facebook -Office 365 - Products / cnMaestro - Cambium Community (cambiumnetworks.com)

Any ETA for 5.1 On-Premise?

Can we expect further customization options for the EasyPass portal? The way it is right now, it’s quite limited in features and, sorry to say, not very aesthetically pleasing.
