Thanks for the heads up, but we’re using Aruba Central with on-site hardware Aruba wireless gateways. No Instant On here. We’re too big for that.
Same need on the Oct 1 cliff — if a hosted On-Prem style bridge helps keep management working while you rip-replace, we host cnMaestro as a stopgap with guided collection so you don’t have to DIY every AP: https://cloudwlc.com — happy to help if that’s useful.
We also offering dedicated hosted cnMaestro instances to those in need
Great to see driven community effort and opportunities.
Make sure to onboard all in stock as yet unused devices to on prem then when they are needed they are already on boarded. I purchased stock forward to provide for maintenance and will be on boarding by the label on the boxes.
Russ,
Does anyone know if this will cover the cnMatrix switches, or just the AP’s? I haven’t seen ANYTHING on their site about things besides AP’s for management.
I’m currently working my way through migrating 97 APs from Cloud to On Prem.
My experience so far:
I too am running this on Hyper-V, and after extracting and converting the virtual disks, mine too didn’t seem to boot. Just a blank screen, However, I noticed that a DHCP lease was being issued to cnMaestro so connected via Web GUI and got the cnMaestro web login where I could do the initial config. Not ideal, but working. Just ensure the on prem box sits on the same management VLAN of the APs.
Exported our Profiles and WLAN configs and imported these into the On Prem controller (WLAN Configs First).
Armed with a list of the serial numbers of the APs, I followed the process working on about 5 APs at a time:
- Delete APs from Cloud Account, wait for confirmation ( a few seconds)
- On Prem, got to Onboarding and use Claim. Change the product type to Enterprise Wi-Fi XE Series and paste in the serial numbers of the ones I’ve just deleted.
- Click the Appove All button
- Wait for about 5 minutes while the devices are on boarded
- Once onboarded, edit each device to apply the Site and Necessary Profile
- Wait a few more minutes
- Sync seems to fail at this point, but re-applying another sync job seems to get them sorted
Almost all done, but for some reason I do have one AP that is showing as ‘unknown device’ in the Cloud Sync Status column and stuck on Onboarding - but it is showing as online in the device list. Bit odd, maybe I need to remove it and try again to see if that resolves it?
I created my ‘new’ anchor account before the annoucement about X being enabled by default on new accounts. Only ever had essentials, so not too fussed but may try and see if I can connect it to another anchor account that does have this enabled. But, it’s all mute anyway if these devices are no longer supported. Working in Education within the UK, our RPA Insurance (Cyber Attack Insurance sort of thing) dictates that all hardware and software must be current and in support by the original vendor. If the Enterprise Wi-Fi is left to die this only gives us time to look for another solution and spend tax payers money on another solution. We’ve only had it in place for 3 years and it’s been absolutely rock solid with no issues at all - so frustrating.
Am hoping for help migrating cnWave 60Ghz equipment from cnMaestro cloud to cnMaestro on-prem.
We have setup an on-prem cnMaestro instance and successfully migrated various device families ePMP, XV2 & cnPilot Wi-Fi. However am having issues with 60Ghz cnWave equipment.
cnWave equipment is setup as small deployments in multiple separate locations / networks. We use either P2P or P2MP connections using 1 DN & CN’s. The DN is also the only POP and runs End2End controller.
For other device families we essentially updated the cnMaestro URL / ID / Key, deleted the device from the cloud instance and onboarded to on-prem. Management from on-prem works fine afterwards.
For cnWave, this process doesn’t seem to work - the specific device (e.g. V5000) connects to on-prem and reports “Waiting for Approval” however does not show up in the onboarding queue under “cnWave” either E2E controller or devices. DN log indicates “SRV_REG_FAILED” when the old cloud exists, but no failure or feedback when the 60Ghz network is removed from the cloud.
I’ve searched cloud inventory for MAC / Serial on the migrated 60Ghz equipment and can’t find any evidence that the equipment remains in the cnMaestro cloud environment.
Anyone with experience or suggestions on migration process for 60Ghz cnWave equipment?
With Airspan’s acquisition of CnMaestro, is there any news regarding the duration of the service and/or the on-premise version with the license-free X features enabled?
In case you weren’t aware, cnWave 60GHz was included in the sale to Airspan, so those devices will be manageable in Airspan’s cnMaestro cloud.
(Of course, you are welcome to move them to On-Premises, but you don’t have to)
Airspan’s version of cnMaestro will only support the product lines they acquired.
Enterprise & ePMP products are not included.
Yes and with the current version not 6.0
So cloud cnM is staying operational as it stands for all lines, but only new WISP hardware going forward will be supported?
Is there no alternative to cnMaestro. Maybe there could be some independent supplier that could temporarily offer a solution until we know what Cambium is going to do in the future. ?
cnMaestro will ONLY be operational for Airspan requirements, for their needs and the product lines they picked up. Enterprise wireless portion is dead at the moment. Airspan will only cater and provide that behooves them…
Yes — a few of us are hosting cnMaestro as a temporary bridge so enterprise Wi-Fi keeps manageable while Cambium settles. Guided collection, no DIY-every-AP grind: https://cloudwlc.com — happy to help if that’s useful.
Is there any possibility to initialize cnMaestro Essentials (latest version 6.0.0) without linking it to a Cloud Anchor Account? I can’t get rid of this:
Connect to cnMaestro Cloud Anchor Account
cnMaestro On-Premises instance must be connected to a Cloud Anchor account in order to complete installation. Please see the Cloud Connectivity section of the online help for additional direction.
Not until “Cambium” removes the internal call to cloud services. If at all… Crickets for enterprise aspect of the business.
Uncertain now given the Airspan announcement. I am wondering if this will internally be claimed as “good enough, we got a sale of XYZ product stack” and anything else will just die.
Version 6.0.0.R11 was released today for download from support.cambiumnetworks.com. The release notes don’t mention the Anchor Free feature; or any changes to R6. Does anyone know what changes it includes?
That Anchor gate on Essentials On-Prem is what’s blocking a lot of enterprise installs right now. If you need a temporary path that doesn’t depend on Cambium Cloud Anchor, we’re hosting cnMaestro as a bridge with guided collection: https://cloudwlc.com — happy to help if that fits.
face palm. Thanks for sharing the update!
