WiFi Analyzer

User can get the details of the RF interference from other WiFi Devices and the channels in which they are operating and other details so that they can plan the design of their network.

3. Scenarios

3.1 Scenario 1 : Traffic flow Issue

cnMaestro tools help to  diagnose exact problem in case the traffic is not flowing or Internet connectivity is lost or there are a lot of packet drops observed.

a)

Which link is up/down

Select WiFi device you want to troubleshoot and navigate to Monitor >Tools page. The hierarchical pictorial representation lets you know whether the link between:

·         AP and uplink switch is up/down

·         AP and SM is up/down

·          SM and WiFi Device is up/down.

b)

Why there are Packet drops

Select the WiFi device you want to troubleshoot and navigate to Monitor >Tools page. Click on the Latency link between the AP and SM or SM and WiFi Device and cnMaestro lets you know how much is the latency between the devices. If latency is high then the Link between AP/SM/Wifi will not be stable and there will be packet drops.

c)

 Speed and Duplex

Select the WiFi device you want to troubleshoot and navigate to Monitor >Tools page. The hierarchical pictorial representation of the devices shows the Uplink speed and duplex from the AP to the Switch/Router and the speed and duplex between the SM and WiFi Device. This will help in identifying any Speed or duplex issues and rectify them.

d)

RF Link Quality

Select the ePMP SM device you want to troubleshoot and navigate to Monitor >Tools page. The hierarchical pictorial representation of the devices shows the RF link quality between AP and SM as shown in the screenshot.

3.2 Scenario 2 : Network connectivity

Helps user to check the device Network connectivity with the outside or inside networks.

Use the cnMaestro >Tools > Network Connectivity options like Ping/DNS Lookup/Traceroute to accomplish this task. This is available for all device types.

a)

Ping

Select the Ping option from the drop down of Test Type field under Monitor > Tools > Network Connectivity menu and enter:

·         Valid IP Address or Hostname the

·         Number of packets

·         Buffer size

Click Start Ping option. The results will be displayed in the bottom text area.

b) DNS Lookup

Select the DNS Lookup option from the drop down of Test Type field under Monitor > Tools > Network Connectivity menu and enter a valid Hostname. Click the DNS Test button. The results will be displayed in the bottom text area.

c) Traceroute

Select the Traceroute option from the drop down of Test Type field under Monitor >Tools > Network Connectivity and enter:

·         Valid IP Address or Hostname

·         Make proper selection for Fragmentation, Trace Method, Display TTL, Verbose

Click the Start Traceroute button. The results will be displayed in the bottom text area. Click on Stop Traceroute button in case you want to terminate the operation.

3.3 Scenario 3 : RF interference

Helps user to check the RF interference in the WiFi device deployment site.

Monitor >Tools section WiFi analyser helps in identifying the RF interference in the WiFi device deployment site. This option is available for only WiFi devices.

Go to Monitor > Tools > WiFi analyser after selecting a WiFi device in the Tree and select the Band 2.4/5 GHz. Click Start Scan to start scanning.

The results will be displayed as graph and tabular format. The graphs shows RSSI/Noise vs channel number of the particular Band. It also provides toggle button to see Number of APs/ Noise vs channel number. This information will be useful for planning WiFi device deployments.

3.4 Scenario 4 : Device logs and packet capture

Helps user to check my device Logs or do a packet capture without logging into the device.

a)

Debug Logs

Navigate to below path to collect logs from device without logging into the device.

·         Monitor > Tools > Debug for ePMP/PMP products

·         Monitor > Tools > Client Health for WiFi products

Select the Logs option from the drop down and click Start Logs. You can wait until the operation completes or you can click Stop Logs to terminate in between (captures partial logs).

b) Packet Capture

Monitor > Tools > Client Health page helps to capture the Packets from device without logging into the device. Select the Packet Capture option from the drop down and:

·         Select Ethernet, Wireless Lan or WLAN option from Interface dropdown

·         Enter Number (interface number) and Count (number of packets)

Click Start Capture. Wait until the operation completes or you can terminate the process after collecting partial log by pressing Stop Capture button.

3.5 Scenario 5 : Unconnected clients

Helps user to know the failed attempts by clients trying to connect to the WiFi device.

Monitor >Tools > Unconnected Clients shows the details of failed connection attempts of clients to WiFi device. By this user get to know what are MAC Addresses of the clients failed to connect and its reason for failure attempt like Wrong Password or blacklisted etc..

3.6 Scenario 6 : Tech support file

Helps user to contact the support team in case user is unable to investigate root cause using cnMaestro provided debugging tools.

Go to Monitor > Tools page and click Tech Support file icon (highlighted in below screenshot) to download logs and config file of the device. This file can be sent to the Cambium Support team for further debugging of the issue. It is supported for all device types.

3.7 Scenario 7 : Client health

Helps user to know the health of various clients connected to the WiFi device.

Monitor > Tools > Client health helps in identifying:

  • Client related details like Name, IP/MAC Address, Manufacturer, WLAN
  • Data uploaded and downloaded
  • Operating frequency band
  • Signal strength(RSSI) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)

3.8 Scenario 8 : Alarms

Helps user to know the Active Alarms of the device.

Monitor > Tools > Alarms provides the list of Active alarms currently present for the device.
