PMP450x System Release 25.1 is now available

New features introduced in Release 25.1

Release 25.1 supports the following new features:

  • New Zealand can now be configured in 3 GHz PMP devices and the maximum allowed transmit power, per bandwidth, will be properly restricted by software.
  • United Kingdom can now be configured in 3 GHz PMP devices and the maximum allowed transmit power, per bandwidth, will be restricted by software on the SMs and APs. Note that any operation above 4 GHz requires a 9 dB backoff to a maximum TX power of 19 dBm for 450b SMs. This backoff must be operator configured per 450b SM.
  • AFC location uncertainty improvements for 450v 2x2 and 4x4 450v radios: With the prior addition of an averaging algorithm along with the additional use of Galileo satellites, Cambium now has FCC and ISED approval to use smaller AFC uncertainly values for latitude, longitude, and height for the 2x2 and 4x4 450v radios. As each 6 GHz radio is upgraded to Release 25.1, an AFC server exchange will be triggered. For such radios near AFC incumbents, a higher EIRP authorization from the AFC server might be seen. Note that this is a late addition to Release 25.1 and is not included in any of the prior Beta releases.

Improved PMP contention slot configuration guidance

With the release of version 25.1 software and documentation, Cambium is modifying and enhancing the Contention Slot subsection of the PMP Configuration guide, replacing the simple contention slots table that is based entirely on number of SMs and frame size, with a more accurate calculator that takes additional parameters into consideration. No software changes were made in Release 25.1 that relate to this improved guidance. It applies to any Cambium PMP release. The calculator can be found in the PMP Contention Slot Calculator subsection of the PMP 450 support site.

Problems and limitations corrected in Release 25.1

Products Affected Tracking Description
All PMP radios CPYV-1018 The per-modulation Receive Fragments Modulation column has been removed from the Statistics > Data Channels > Fragments Modulation table. With the SNR changes mentioned earlier in these notes, these stats are no longer supported. The table remains to show the downlink Retransmitted fragments counters. Also, this subsection has now been renamed to Fragments Statistics.
SMs CPY-19989 Backward compatibility support for future Asymmetric bandwidth feature. A future release, currently called Release 26.0, will add the ability to configure different bandwidths per component carrier on a 450v sector. This Release 25.1 code will allow SMs that are running Release 25.1 to successfully register to a 450v AP running Release 26.0 and configured for Asymmetric bandwidths.
All sectors operating with just a single SM registered CPY-19987 In Release 25.1, a modification was introduced to Cambium’s piggyback functionality, a performance optimization feature for single- SM PMP links. Under low-traffic conditions immediately after restart, this change could cause the link to display and operate at a lower modulation rate than expected. The issue would automatically resolve once sufficient traffic was transmitted across the link. Cambium reverted this change in Release 25.1.
450v APs using SFP CPY-19978 PMP 450v APs were not clearing out learned MAC addresses on it’s SFP interface after SMs migrated from one AP to another. This impacted the ability to properly route traffic after the SM had been moved.
MicroPoP APs CPY-19973 Additional improvements have been made to the Rx sensitivity performance of MicroPoP APs that were manufactured in the last 18 months. The primary issue affecting these APs was addressed in CPY-19937. A further enhancement has been implemented to improve uplink Rx sensitivity in scenarios where the configured uplink target Rx level is particularly strong, providing additional performance optimization under these conditions.
All CPY-19969 The following fixes have been introduced in this release on the Configuration > General page of 6 GHz radios:
  • for 450b6 radios which don’t make use of Galileo, Galileo option has been removed.
  • for 450v radios, when AFC is enabled, the option to select satellite navigation systems have been removed, defaulting now to both GPS and Galileo.
All CPY-19968 The average contention slots per frame, was incorrectly displayed on the AP for 5 and 15 minute time averaging intervals on the AP.
450b6 radios CPY-19967 Updated the Skylab GPS puck settings used for the PMP 450b6 radios. This reduces the sudden changes in AFC lat/long/height reported by the radio.
All PMP radios CPY-19942 Users with read-only mode was blocked after upgrading to Release 25.x.
MicroPoP APs CPY-19937 MicroPoP APs displayed registration issues and poor uplink performance even though uplink signal levels were strong.
450v radios CPY-19932, CPYV-1009 Several improvements have been made to PMP 450v software handling of different possible error responses from the AFC server.
All CPY-19925 Uplink RSSI averaging for power adjust was being calculated incorrectly.
450i BHMs CPY-19918 PTP 450i BHM were resetting with CaOs/FatalError after upgrading to Release 25.0.
450v APs and SMs CPY-19917 SMs were reporting zero value for SNR in the link capacity test after running a link test.

To resolve this the non-450v radios under 450v APs have been moved to an EVM-based calculation of SNR.
All CPY-19914 At 40 MHz, Oceana/Australia, the previous highest configurable center frequency was 6562.5, even though 6565 should have been allowed.
450m APs CPY-19905 Increase in session drops were observed on 450m AP sectors when upgrading from Release 22.x to 24.x or 25.x.

An FPGA rebuild in this release fixes this issue.
450v SMs CPY-19903, CPY-19904 450v SMs operating at particular center frequencies or narrow bandwidths and transmitting at maximum transmit power were getting in a state where power adjust commands were being rejected and causing a session drop every few minutes.
All PMP radios CPY-19892 Fixed the software power limits for Australia region for 3 GHz radios.
All 450v radios CPY-19884 PMP 450v APs were unable to start spectrum scan on 450v APs, if AFC process/exchange never completes.
450v BHM and BHS CPY-19874 PTP 5.1 GHz BHM or BHS 450v maximum transmission was 3 dB, which was very weak when using 5 MHz NA/US region.
All CPY-19750 Power level dBm Signal Strength Ratio (dB V- H) on AP link test page was not showing the proper power level per CC.
450v APs and SMs CPY-19743 For optimal SM alignment, Cambium has introduced new SNMP OIDs for the individual V and H paths for each component carrier and for both the uplink and downlink directions:

  • lapSmCCRssiVertical: .1.3.6.1.4.1.161.19.3.1.15.3.1.4
On the SM side, the following OIDs are introduced:

450v SMs CPY-19636 Fixed the PMP 450v SM UI to make it clear that the RSSI is the average value, and not combined, across multiple CCs.
450m APs CPY-19530 PMP 450m units were losing anti-cloning and feature keys.
All CPY-18529 WHISP-BOX-MIBV2-MIB has been updated to include the following additional intermediate modulation modes:
  • llinkTestMVCSumimomModRateDL
  • llinkTestMVCSumimomModRateUL
  • llinkTestMVCMumimomModRateDL
450m CPY-16285 PMP 450m devices restarted with a FatalError because of Error Allocating Radius Request error.
450v 2x2 and 4x4 radios CPYV-1004 Added Galileo satellites to mprove the accuracy of the GPS latitude, longitude, and height for PMP 450v 2x2 and 4x4 radios. This also improves the AFC uncertainly values authorized for FCC and Canada AFC operation.
450v radios CPYV-989 450v radios were unable to start a spectrum scan if AFC process never completed, or if all Component Carrier to carrier associations were configured as none.
450v CPYV-938 Nomadic is now disabled whenever AFC is enabled.
450v CPYV-692 This release fixes an issue for 450v sector devices operating with nomadic mode. This fix ensures the link is using the proper component carrier for power measurements.
